In 1874, Gonnosuke, now known as Kawarasaki Sanshō, began managing and performing once more at the now-rebuilt and reopened Kawarasaki-za. At the reopening ceremony, or perhaps shortly afterwards, he took the honored name Ichikawa Danjūrō IX, which had not been held for twenty years.

He temporarily called himself Kawarasaki Kunisaburô during the crisis and finally took the name of Kisegawa Rokô in November 1875. He was active up to 1878.
Whenever the play is acted by a member of the Ichikawa family, amateur Kato bushi musicians are invited to perform.
